Serious words from puritan John Owen on the spiritual war we face with sin. I mentioned this quote yesterday in connection with our sermon text on Colossians 3:5-11 where the Holy Spirit says, "Put to death therefore what is earthly in you..." and then proceeds to list sins and vices of the flesh.
This cartoon illustrates nicely the imagery of putting to death sin; what Paul later says as putting off the old self. We need nothing less than the power of Holy Spirit to do such things.
Romans 8:13 - "For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live."
